Hello!
I have a pet spider that my friend caught for me in his garage. My biology teacher said that it was a wolf spider and I looked up some pictures and it looks like a dark brown with gray spider. It looked a lot like the Carolina wolf spider but I read up on them and it said they don’t make webs and mine did. That was the only thing that was different but I think that it is a very important thing in a spider. I want to know if a wolf spider can make a web and if they will make one to live in. and if not if you could give me some names of spiders that may look like a wolf spider but isn’t.
Thank you,
Desi and Erick (my spider)
I found the site very interesting. I just found a brown spider with distorted black spots on his body. I could not find it on the site …
Hi,
So this past summer while setting up for my sisters wedding I came across a very scary spider that I had never seen before. It was in a funnel shaped web in the window sill of her shed. I was actually hanging picture frames on the wall beside the window when the spider decided to show himself. His/her? body was about an inch to an inch and a half in diameter and was bright yellow and almost looked hairy. Its legs were much longer then its body and were striped black and white and looked really spindly and thin compared to its body. The scariest part was in had HUGE bright red fangs. I live in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada and have never ever come across a spider quite like this one before. Its been bugging me (no pun intended) to try to figure out just what the heck it was so if anyone could help me figure it out you would quite possibly become my hero (at least for one day that it)
Hello,
Today I opened to door to go outside and I saw this smallish black spider with orange on its legs, can you identify it?
The spider I am wondering about looks exactly like the one in the photo from Julie in Milwaukee, WI dated 4-01-08. Can you tell me the name & anything about it?
THANKS
– Patti
I today found a black spider with three white marks on its back, it was tucked up underneath our rain gauge in the garden, I live in Brisbane Australia and would love to know what it is.
A spider was on my neck when I woke up. Quite small, like a big mosquito with the long legs. It has a yellow long abdomen and red fangs. It nearly looked like a daddy long leg except for the colors. I still feel the tickling on my whole body….brrr! Could you please identify? Thank you.
Hey, I found this spider in my room in the basement. It’s ALL red. Medium sized, leaning on the large size. It was dead and shriveled up, so I couldn’t inspect the legs all that well. But it was totally red. A little bit of some darker red coloration to the joints of everything, but no black or brown or anything else.
This a bad sign?
Thanks! Morgan
These are some really cool spiders. this info is helping me complete my report! thanks!
We have this spider that has and big shiny dark brown butt, dark brown or black legs and a brown body. It’s eyes are 2 rows 4 grouped together in the middle and 2 apart from the 4 on each side. And 2 tan stripes on the under side of the but.
Dear Julie Evans Milwaukee, WI. I have found a spider just like yours, I live in Canada Ontario, and it was in the cupboard in the kitchen. I have been wondering if you have found out what kind of spider is was, Thanks

We live in Northern Georgia- (Southern Atlanta burbs)
I will email a picture-

I have a picture of a spider found in the molding of a doorway in my house I cannot identify. Can I send the 45K pic to you for identification?
hi my name is Shane and i am 24 years old i live in bell flower ca, i was helping my grandpa with his back yard and found this spider and would like to know what it is.
I found this exact spider today from this picture that was posted here by a Ricky in October 2007. The spider has a reddish looking body with a black patch and 2 white spots on it located on the abdomen. Does anyone have any idea what spider this is in Ricky’s picture and if it’s poisonous?
I found this strange looking spider on the cabinet of my kitchen. It is black and is shaped like a wolf spider only it’s much smaller at about 5mm. It has a distinctive black and dark brown stripes on its legs and has snow white pulps from the top view but black from under. It also has a white band at the end of its upper body and another at the connection between the upper and lower body. And it has a beautiful glossy coat on its upper body. Sorry I can’t send you an attachment of the picture. Oh, and by the way, I live in Malaysia, Equator, Southeast Asia.
I just found a spider outside my window. it’s yellow with brown stripes around it’s legs and one brown stripe on it’s belly. Help! I hate spiders!
Ok I don’t have a picture, but it was an all black spider with two red stripes on its back and it was the size of a half dollar coin. I live in Michigan and i saw it at my work, in a grocery store.
Today my brother found this spider in our bathroom. When he freaked out I went in to look. It was 2″ in diameter or possibly a little bigger (including the legs). The legs, abdomen and cephalothorax were jet black with no markings. It looked at first like a very large Aggressive House Spider, but I have never seen a black one Oregon. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture because my brother commenced to smashing the spider just as I got there. The legs were long and slender, so I know it wasn’t a trapdoor spider and it didn’t appear “furry”. There was no web that I could see as it was crawling across the floor toward my freaked out brother. I thought it may have been a Hobo Spider, but again I have never seen one that is black and when I looked online, the only description I found that matched was the Black House Spider but they only live in Australia and New Zealand as far as I know.
Any ideas?
Thanks
I found this spider that has like a white stripe and like 3 dots on it and its brown and im really scared and like idk what to do!! please help me!! I LIVE IN HAVE MONTANA!!
Hi I’m Sam and I live in Illinois. I’m 13 years old I saw a red small spider in my bathroom. It scared me. I had a bad time with spiders when one bit me, my neck swelled up and this spider was the size of a quarter. I’m now a 13 year old scared of a spider the size of a quarter, but that one bad time really scared me so please help me.
I maintain and close pools during the summer in long island new york, so I see the best of the new york spiders. I’ve had male widows crawl on me, I’ve seen 15 dead recluses at the bottom of a pool, funnel spiders, everything. One day I removed a cover from a shed and saw what looked to be a tarantula that someone let loose, then I got a closer look and had no clue what type of spider this was, and the next week I saw another one! Including the leg span the spider had to be about 3 to 3.5 inches wide, the body was maybe about an inch. I took a picture but I do not know how to upload it
I don’t have a picture, but while I was on my grandmother’s porch here in Denver Colorado, I found this big mustard-like yellow & white-ish spider with a triangular shaped bubble butt that had these two little points on either side kinda like tiny horns. It had thickish legs that curved around the front end of it so I assume it was one of those killing spiders that hold onto their pray. I sprayed it several times with like three different kinds of cleaners, & one time with hair spray but it would not die!! Eventually I sprayed it so much with an alcohol based cleaner, that it lost it’s grip on the slippery porch ceiling & fell onto the floor but it was still living & crawling. I had to get someone else to step on it because I had no shoes & of course when they did it kinda popped like a dry pimple, but my grandmother & I still can not help wondering what kind it was. I can send you a picture of the remains that are still on the porch if you want, but I doubt that will help much.
Hi my name is Maylee. I found a spider in my back yard. It is red with a black and yellow belly. I live in California…do you have any idea what kind of spider it is?
I live in Atlanta, Georgia. During volleyball practice this huge black spider with a orange diamond appeared on the ball. The janitor would not kill it so its still crawling around the gym. Does anyone know what type of spider it is?
This spider is currently in between the glass and screen of my window. There was one that looked just like it in my bathroom about a month ago and someone said from the picture it looks like a brown recluse. Does anyone know what this really is?
I have a orange-brownish spider that I found in a corner of a bedroom at the ceiling. We live in Nashville. I will forward a picture and appreciate it if someone can help me identify it.
I saw a picture of a new arachnid it had blue fangs there was a picture of it on yahoo news my teacher said there is no such thing i said there is please if anyone knows about it please help me
Spider is fairly large, with legs spread out they can be about 2 1/2 inches. They can be found high on my walls and stay quite still. I am also not sure how they are getting into the house. I have looked everywhere and can’t find a similar picture. There seems to be two morphologies (male/female perhaps). One has this pattern you see here, the slimmer one. The other, is slightly rounder, and has black near its mouth region, and on its leg tips. Thanks for the help,
Shayn,
Fresno, CA
Ok, my husband found this spider in our wash room. It is a solid black spider with a brown stripe down its head but the line does not go all the way down its body. It is about the size of a half dollar coin. I have searched for it on the internet and could not find any info. If you have any idea please let me know. Thank you for any and all info.
See alot of these spiders around the north Oregon coast area, in dark places. Is this a widow?
Any ideas? I think it might a Mexican red rump Tarantula.
I was bitten by a recluse spider several years ago, I almost died and surgeons ended up taking half of my upper calf to save my life. All the meat on my upper calf was rotting. It took me 6 months before I started feeling better and went in and out of hospitals. Now I am terrified of spiders. I have lived in the State of Washington for 15 years and have never seen this spider before. Its legs are a orange and black stripped very distinct pattern. May be pretty by some spider lovers standards. This summer they were all over the place at every house in our subdivision, every garage outside and hanging constantly from webs. They are scaring me to the point I cannot sleep, and I am looking for them all the time. I can go for a walk and spot at least a couple on every house, every tree and mailboxes? they also do not have to be on a web or thread they will just sit on the garage doors at the top. They are not fearful of people but do not seem in a attack mode either. I do not understand how all of a sudden they are everywhere and thriving. Does anyone know what they are and could they be poisonous, please if anyone knows this spider please help me.
I found a spider in my shower this morning. He was a little bigger than a half dollar. It was pretty think too including the legs. He was brown with a black almost diamond looking pattern on its back with black spots on the rest of it. The bottom of him was black, I didn’t notice any distinct markings When I tried to pick him up with tissue he seemed aggressive; he sort of lunged at me. I ended up killing him and the only pic I got was on my cell phone, but you can’t see it very well. I am in Goldsboro, NC. Any thoughts?? I have looked through the photos and the only one that looked kind of close was the one Nadia shows. Thanks for any help!!!! :o)
Hello. I live in Oswego, NY and have this big guy on my front porch. Just curious what he is.
I’ve found a very small spider 1/4″ to 1/2″ with legs. Back and side legs are maybe 1/16″ long at the most. Front legs almost look like a long narrow crab leg. The spider is off white to brown. I’m in the Arcadia CA area. Thanks for your help!
There was a black furry spider with short legs (with kinda white spots or stripes on it’s legs) about the size of a nickel in my car. I freak out and jumped out of my car. When I got back in I couldn’t find it!. any idea what it might be. Do I need to worry.
yes i found this guy or girl on my front porch early this morning trapped in a bowl its body (not including its legs) was probably the size of or a little bigger than a quarter. I have a one year old and really need help identifying this spider… It was completely black and i live northeast al. when threatened it would act like it was dead (lay on its back with all its legs pulled in) or run round really fast…. I have three pics but could not figure out how to post them on here…
Hello. I live in NYC. I have captured a little spider who unfortunately has lost a leg while I tried to capture it. Its body is half an inch in length. Its color is a beige or light brown one and looks semi-transparent, especially the legs.. I really want to know what type is it, and sadly I don’t have a camera or web cam to post a photo of it eating a juicy fly that I knocked out in my bathroom. I also forgot to mention that its feelers have black bushy ends with tiny black fangs. It’s abdomen is darker than it’s c-thorax, and it seems to crave flies only, because I put two cockroaches inside its container and instead of attacking, it becomes a coward.
Hi, We live in Spokane, Washington and we have a recent spider problem! We have lived in the same house for 6 years and have only had Hobo spiders down in the basement. In the past week we have had a new spider around upstairs and down. It is yellowish and about the size of a dime or at most a nickel. We have been seeing and killing a lot just in this past week. At the end of summer I did spay the foundation of our whole house and also doorways (as I do every year) but should I be doing more? We are not a spider friendly household and this morning I found one of these little critters in my son’s bedding. Do you know what kind this spider might be and also if their bites are dangerous? Thanks for any help :)

I am trying to identify a spider I found at work today. I live in Maryland and we get deliveries all across the US and from other countries. I saw this spider setting by a hole in the floor and is the biggest I have ever seen. When I went to pick it up it was attacking my gloves. I know nothing about spiders but it is hairy, brown, thin legs, has light brownish stripes like a tiger, a big hump on its back and has brown eyes. I took a picture, which I will send. If anyone can help identify what kind of spider this is it will be greatly appreciated!
I’m doing a bug project for science and would like some help identifying them. Can anyone recommend some trusted sites that are good for identifying all kinds of bugs? I would be very, VERY grateful if you guys could help.
Thanks,
~Zoe~
Location is Northern California.
I left this fellow alone for a few weeks as it happily spun large (3 foot) flat webs in the tree by the side of our garage. When it moved to the walkway down the side of our house, spinning a web such that we couldn’t walk from the backyard to the front yard, I needed to move it out of the way. Unfortunately, the ‘move it out of the way’ results were a bit more permanent than I initially planned.
Stretched out, the leg span was perhaps 1.5″ to 2″. Body and legs (except for leg joints, which were black) was reddish-brown. It had an interesting black rectangle on its belly, with two (perhaps more) white dots inside the black rectangle. Not particularly aggressive, but certainly fearless; it didn’t run off when I came near.
Quite a bit different in coloration and size than the small house spiders we normally encounter. And the black rectangle on the belly was something I haven’t seen in the past. Any thoughts as to the breed?
I found a spider in the corner of a window. It was in a choppy looking web. It is a light brown(tan) color with dark brown stripes on its legs. It has a tannish line down its butt and an hour glassish mark(also tan) on the underside of its butt. It’s the size of a penny. It’s butt is a little bulbous. I live in central New Mexico. Does anyone know what kinda spider this is?
I used to live in the Mojave Desert, and from the sounds of it, that’s a very unharmful daddy-long-leg. Try searching that and see if the pictures match.
I found this by my front door this morning. I’ve never seen a spider like this before and can’t find it on the web. Looks like a black widow but has a red flat surface over the head area and no red on the butt. Please help to identify it. I live in Northern Colorado.
Thanks!
Bree
Please help me identify this spider, I think it is a Brown Widow and I am pregnant. We also have small children in my family. Thank you very much. If you can email be back ASAP that would be good.
Hi,
I live in the Nashville area of Tennessee. I found a spider crawling FAST through my living room right after I’d picked up a bunch of my kids’ toys. The spider was black with a distinctive reddish-orange band/stripe down the length of its back. It sure didn’t look a black widow, as the back was slender not bulbous. Anyway, I attached a pic I found online & can also send a pic of the actual spider, although it’s kind of smashed between two pieces of tape. I have two babies under 2 years, so any help you can give me is much, much appreciated.
I visit your site often. You helped us ID a terrible brown recluse infestation in the past, for which we are eternally grateful!
Thanks!
Stefanie
