#32,#48,#87 the spiders you were trying to identifiy are known as Sait Andrews Cross Spiders
Main features: Small spiders with brightly coloured abdomens; striped white, red, black and yellow.
Male: 2mm. The male lives on the female’s web.

The bite of the St Andrews Cross is of low risk to humans.
They are a non-aggressive group of spiders
hello today i walked out into the garage to talk to my parents and while walking over to the window i noticed a spiders web that wasn’t there before, it was a thick ball like web with a quarter sized hole in the center that led a funnel to the bottom corner of the window, there was a pitch black spider, which was about a half dollar in size.
i live in Monroe Michigan, this is almost unheard of to me, so trying to get rid of it i torched the web but didn’t burn the spider (i wanted to see what the hell made that) and it was huge, big body, loonng legs, and i could see from what i thought looked like hair, there where tons of dead bugs from bees, flies, and wasps. so i went to smash the critter (my mum freaked) and that spider took off faster than i could blink i swear it looked like it jumped lol, but i got it….long story i know but ive seen a couple of these now that im looking, yet…never seen one with a web like that that appeared so fast! we are slightly concerned on what it could be…im sorry i dont have a picture or anything (oh and after i killed it i went back to the corner where it was and seen lil spiders crawling around, hair thin legs, small body, yed big black thorax (if thats the butt) lol sorry not a spider kinda guy ever since they crawled outta my cereal bowl when i was lil
Hey I am currently in san jose, ca. I recently found a large-ish spider on my towel that startled me quite a bit. I squished it because 1; i’m not sure what type of spider it was, and 2; i didn’t want to risk letting it bite the infant in our home, although it did not behave aggressively at all.
My camera is broken, so I couldn’t take a pic, but I would like to know what it is, and haven’t seen a photo anywhere that looks like a possibility for its identification.
Here’s a description: (I’m estimating here because i didn’t have a ruler on me at the time)
with its legs spread out naturally, the spider was approximately 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter(including the legs)
it’s main body was about 1/3 of an inch length total.
The coloring was mostly a light brown, with a single darker brown stripe stretching across the abdomen, which was about twice as long as the head part.
Its fangs were quite large and a little lighter than the rest of the body.
I didn’t notice any other patterns on the legs or head.
I have seen this type of spider before; in southeast Idaho. It was underneath a computer desk. Neither time did they act aggressive. I haven’t seen any webs anywhere, nor seen more than one in any given area. In idaho when traps were set out maybe a half dozen of these spiders were caught throughout the house.
If you have any idea what type of spider this could be I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Looks like a phidippus audax, it is harmless and is good at getting rid of insects in your home. It should have a blue coloured fang base if it is an adult one, and looks scarry. They can bite if intimidated, but not harmful to humans or pets.

Hi, if you have had a bite please read this:
i thought me and my ex boyfriend were getting bites from spiders a few years ago in va beach but later found out they were in fact staph folocus aureus infections. These can be very dangerous and if you have something that swells over a short time and looks like a spider or other insect bite you should seek medical treatment immediately! i ended up in the hospital for over a week and so did my ex more then once.. if you get staph “aureus” you need vancomyasin (bad spelling ) its the only medicine that can treat the specific infection and most doctors don’t actually know that.. :(
good luck
We found this on the wall of the staircase leading to the 2nd floor of our bay area (California) home. Kind of looks like a Hobo Spider but the coloring and shape of the abdomen is different from the pictures we’ve seen. When resting it folds its legs under.
I live in Salem Oregon. I found this spider right outside my door and Ive never seen it before. Its bigger than a quarter and probably a little bigger than a 50 cent piece if it stretches its legs out. Its orange in color and looks slightly translucent, it has a tan abdomen and small cream ovals going down it. Any idea what it is?
I found this on my sunflowers while I was weeding. I live in Maryland all my life and never seen one like this.
Found this one in the steering wheel of my riding lawnmower this morning. Can’t seem to identify it and was looking for help. Thanks.

I found this spider about 11:30 last night just sitting on the door that leads outside. I would just like to know what type of spider it is.
Thanks,

I found this spider outside on the ceiling my boyfriend and I are wondering what it is? Thanks!
Hi, i recently have seen a spider that looked like a black widow to me, it was zebra stripped on the top and then its belly was black and it looked like a redish hourglass to me, and then it was followed by another, bigger on that looked almost the same but was brown with white stripes, i didnt see the belly, but i was wondering are those forms of black widows or a completely different spider?
i found a spider at my friends house..it was outside in a regular looking web it made in between his gazebo and a fence..its a fuzzy green color and it has a yellow line going down its back with multiple yellow lines going across almost looking like ribs..its abdomen is fat about the size of a pea and its overall about the size of a quarter..i just want to know what kind of spider it was cuz it looks really cool…thanks
We have a BUNCH of spiders around the house – and I can’t figure what kind they are – and more importantly, if their are venomous – we have two small kids, and would hate for one of them to get bit.
These guys range from a half-dollar to a nickle in size – and sometime even sharing the same web.
i would that the white cross design on the back would make identifying easier, but have not been able to find anything, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
#661 or #614
Those look kinda like the one I saw in our back yard gate. it was about the size of the latch (the old metal U shape kind) It was about the size of the latch, with thick legs, a light brownish-tan. It had a thick, cottony web that covered a large portion of the gate around the latch (it’s a criss-crossing metal wire fence and gate). I only saw it from below, as it was standing on the web, facing away from me.
Could have been a wolf spider.
Found it in the kitchen sink on 9-10-09 at night. I don’t have a picture of it but it was bigger then a quarter, color brown with a red spot on it’s reared, had fuzzy legs.I live in Southwest Michigan never seen a spider like that. Thank you for your help.
I found a spider about the size of a dime in a client’s house in Wake Forest, North Carolina. The body and legs were an brownish-orange color, the back (view from the top) really intrigued me. It resembled gold colored sequins. The gold color is what attracted my attention. Needless to say, since I didn’t know if it was poisonous or not, it was killed.
Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?
I found this little guy right out side my front door. i live in Nevada. I’ve never seen anything like it. It has a shiny silver like body with tan/yellow and black striped legs. I have two 7 year olds and they say that they have seen them out back too. I’m worried that they are dangerous.
I live in Western, CO and upon working on our septic found what I believe to be a spider. It is mostly black except for the butt. It is fuzzy all over, and the red butt is fuzzy as well and it is not red only in one spot but the whole butt is red. My kids keep wandering over there and I need to know if it is poisonous. Thanks. Please e-mail me back.
Hello,
I am hoping you can help me identify this spider. I live in Portland, Oregon. I haven’t seen this one before. It has been sitting on my patio chair for a couple days. Doesn’t seem to be making much of a web.
Thank you,
Jeanine
Hi. I found these two spiders in my room on the second floor after moving boxes from the garage. The little on was in my bed! What are these two?

Could someone please identify this spider?
Hi All,
This was taken in a parking lot in San Diego, in August, near a bunch of Eucalyptus trees. It’s about as big as a dime. Do you know what it is?
Thanks.
Could someone please help me identify this?
I found this spider in my basement in Northern Indiana.
This spider was found outside my home in Northeastern Nevada in July. It was on an ivory colored basket. It looks very similar to the spider #33 (sorry the pics are not of the highest quality). I left it alone & am curious if I should have been more concerned. Any info?
Thanks!
Katie

OK. i havent been bitten, but im worried. My mom and i found this strange looking spider outside our house. the web was a strange pattern, kinda messed up, and the spider was black with a black and white (spotted) TRIANGLE abdomen. thats all, its abdomen was a triangle. literally. so should i be worried about my cats? and myself and my parents?? Description of spider again is: little black spider with black and white (spotted) Triangle abdomen.
I was trying to find out what kind of spider this is. I found it crawling on my daughters bed. If someone could please help me out. Thanks
Hi, my name is Rachel. I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and usually don’t have a spider problem. However, I recently found this critter hiding in a crack in my porch, with a large web spreading between a couple planks. The web is extremely strong (there are now a couple of sticks hanging in midair because my parents want me to get rid of it).
I can’t figure out quite what it is, and can’t get a good picture. It has a large, grayish abdomen about the size of a pinto bean, and its abdomen has symmetrical yellow, white, and black markings that almost make it look like a large tick. The spider’s legs are a rusty red color near the body, and become striped black and white further out.
Please help me out with this, I’d really like to know what this spider is before my parents find more, freak out, and call an exterminator.
Anyone have a clue what this is? I live in Northwest Indiana, but I don’t think that’s a native spider….
We have a spider I’ve never seen before in our yard.
She has made a web about foot in diameter.
She is entirely black, about the size of my pinky nail.
The odd thing about her is she has a Crown Like Back Structure.
What kind of spider is this?
This is a picture of a spider in my back yard in it web hanging from an old oak tree. There was total of 6 big spiders 3 inches in diameter. Not once in my life have I seen this type of species in Paulding, Misssissippi. I would like for you tell me what kind it is and if its harmful. I has a golden body with black looking head. the other spider that was with it that i did not get to get a picture of was just like it but its head was a turquoise blue and a gold body. ( it was of a beautiful color. Thank-you
Rach #22 I live in Medina NY and have had a few of them in my house too while I don’t know what kind it is I do know it’s not a Brown Recluse they have a Violin on their thorax which is where they get their other name “Fiddleback” and they’re smaller sorry if this is a repost I have slow internet and can’t go through all the pages
#1207 is a St Andrews Cross Spider (aka Writing Spider or Garden Spider) non-aggressive fairly harmless, beneficial and eats insects.
#1251 looks like a Grass Spider – low risk
#1253 looks like a Hobo Spider – can cause painful blistering bite, may need treatment if bitten.

I would like to know what #7 is on the Spider Identification page as I have the same spider hanging on a large web in front of my sliding glass door. I can’t seem to find where it was identified. If you know what #7 is, please let me know.
ohkay, my boyfriend woke up one morning with a sore on his armpit, and didnt think nothng of it. so the next day he was still complaining that it was hurting him.2 days after he noticed it it grew into a bump the size of a mosquito bite, it continued to hurt him, and grow.its now the size of a golf ball and a pimple-like bump surfaced, and started to peel.so today a week later he complained that the pain was unbearable!so i put a hot rag on it, because he refuses to go to the hospital, n the bump popped. about 2 tlbs of blood n gook came out, and we have no idea what it is, we live in Cape cod, mass. i tried looking up east coast spiders but i couldnt find any pics that match.im hoping you can help me n tell me if this is a spider bit or not. or what are the side effects.please reply.asap.thank you! xokim117xo@ aol.com
#1207 – I randomly came across a site that shows your spider. It is definitely a Yellow Garden Spider.
These spiders are not particularly dangerous to people, and their bites result in nothing more than a sore, itchy swelling that goes away in a few days.” Apparently that silky stripe (called stabilimentum) it weaves in its web helps afford protection to the spider.
could someone identify this spider species?
thanks,
thomas
A. There are no large hairy spiders in the US that are dangerous.
90% of the large hairy spiders picured are Wolf spiders or close cousins. They are harmless and benefitial insect eaters. They don’t even like being out in the light so you don’t have to look at their ugly bodies unless you disturb their hideout.
B. Anyone that tells you “I’m pretty sure that’s a brown recluse” Doesn’t know what they are talking about. The Brown recluse has several look alikes, some of which can only be distinguished by an expert. They are outnumbered by their non-poisonous cousin by 10:1. I have actively searched my property in Oregon trying to find one specimen. So far the count is:
Some other spider 100
Brown recluse 0
Relax!
I found this spider outside on the wall. What kind is it? I live in the mountains of Colorado @ 9,000ft elevation
HI… i found the exact same spider that DONNA found in photo number 7. I found it under the lip of my garbage can outside of our house. I kept it in a jar because I didn’t know if it was dangerous or not. Can someone help me identify it please.
so is the spider in picture #96 poisonous or not? The reason I am asking is because I seen on just alike last night in my bathroom and I am scared to open the door and go in there.
Thank you for your help!!!!!
I don’t have aything ferocious like all these photos, but I am use to seeing about a trillion granddaddy long legs (GDLL) each and every year. However, this year there I am seeing something new and am baffled by what it is. It looks like a GDLL in that it has the eight very long legs and they move the same, but this creature’s body is in the shape of an eight. I have seen small one and HUGE ones!
Everything about it is just the same as the GDLL,except the bodyshape….is this some kind of new breed and is it dangerous? They are all over the house, so I hope not!
okay i have had a few of these spiders in my house and they are getting on my nerves and they kind of look like brown recluses but im not so sure. can you please help me one time they had bit my mother the bit looked like a brown recluse but not as severe, thanks!
Hey guys! I have the same spider as #1207 taking up residence over my front door. Same funny zig-zag “column” down the web. Can anyone identify #1207?
I found this spider sitting high up on a wall inside a friends house in the San Juan Islands in Washington. When we went to put it in a jar, it didn’t move or try to escape when the jar was set over it on the wall. After we put a lid on the jar and set it one the counter, it started running around and trying to climb up the jar but was unable to. Before we put it in a jar, we watched it sitting on a wall doing nothing for about half an hour. It didn’t appear to have any type of web.
We saw this spider in our back yard. It’s about the size of a quarter and is orange with orange legs, but the top part of the orange legs is black. I’ve never seen anything like this here before. I live in South Florida. If anyone knows what it is, please let me know. We have small children and I am concerned. I am emailing a photo. It was dark out. I’ll try and get a better photo during the daytime. Thanks for your help.
