Dont listen to the above character. Brown recluses are about the size of a quarter or smaller, they have 3 pairs of eyes, and a violin looking symbol on them with the neck of the violin towards the butt end.
Also they dont have designs on the butt end.

Anyone wanna take a crack at figuring out what this spider is? Found him on the wall in the bathroom here at work. If it helps, this is in SLC, Utah. So far I haven’t found any photos that look quite like this anywhere online. I just want to satisfy my curiosity and find out more details about this spider.

I found a spider last night when it almost jumped onto my dog while i was outside walking her. It looked somewhat like a brown recluse but it was about the size of the palm of my hand! It was in the bushes in an empty lot and in new york if that helps at all. Can anyone give me any clue as to what it might have been??

    Thanks!

Hey so i need some help trying to identify this spider. I have no clue as to what it is…. and i know what most spiders look like. I’ve looked on google images for this thing and couldnt even find it.

I dont have any pictures of it so cant actually show it to you but it was the oddest looking thing but have no clue weather it may be venomous or not.

The spider was probably half to 3/4 the size of my pinky finger nail. It’s head was like a reddish orange color with no markings on top. It’s abdomen however was a darker red color, but had multiple black stripes on both sides, two on each side.

The abdomen was a long oblong shape, not circular like most spider abdomens are. The legs were all a dark grey maybe even black color. The fangs were pointed down with the actually teeth pointing inwards like all small spiders do. If i can get a good picture of it thats not fuzzy or blurry i’ll post it up here. But I can not find its picture on the web. Maybe a new kind of spider lol i live in the country so it may be very possible. So….. help?

Can someone please help me identify this spider? It was running through my home.. and about a good 2.5-3 inches long in diameter. Any ID would help or maybe what family it’s from. A starting point, please.

This spider is about 3.5 – 4 long. I found it outside the door to my home in Richmond, VA a few weeks ago. It found his way inside this weekend. I am inserting a photo. It is not furry but not shiny (sorry about the photo quality). Any clue what type it is? You can post this on the forum if you like. I have not been able to find other photos similar to this one. Several are close but usually the markings are not a match or the size is too small.

Found this spider, which i am pretty sure is a brown widow…however from what I understand they are not found in southern Indiana, which is where I live. If it is not a brown widow..what might it be? These are two different spiders but I believe they are the same species.

Hey, I came across your site while trying to identify a spider. I found the little guy exploring my lab workstation, and caught it in a petri dish. I couldn’t get my camera to focus on it, but I made a rough color sketch of it. I live in Portland, Oregon.

    spider drawing

    Here’s a description:

-small, body length 6mm, with legs extended 15mm+

    -torso, legs brown, abdomen black

-darker brown bands on the legs

-4 black eyes in one row (I think, it wouldn’t hold still under the stereoscope long enough to see)

-black bulbous extensions above the fangs, with hairy joints

Any help in figuring out what this thing is is appreciated! Thanks!

I have photos of day 3 spider bit on my son. Pus keeps coming out but not sure what is going on. No fever just red and really swollen. It’s a little over 1/2 dollar size. Taking him to urgent care in the morning. Will let everyone know what is going on once we see the doctor.

Michelle #22; Please do not let #100 frighten you. Your friend looks like a harmless (yet still creepy) wolf spider to me. :)

  16. ashley says:

i was wondering if anyone had any ideas at all of #625, toms spider picture. my neighbor, opened up a door in their basement of the house they rent, and there are atleast 10 of THOSE exact things in there, they are all dead, but i cant find ANYTHING like that anywhere. thanks.

  17. Susan says:

I have some of those spiders like the one in 1029. I also have brown recluse. I also have have several nests of black widows around my house and boy do they get huge! Please so help me if anyone knows a way to kill them once and for all, let me know. Recently, after much jumping and screaming and finally making it sick enough with spray to get it off the window to get it onto the sill and knock into a box and out of the box onto the drive and just before killing it, I noticed a black widow with one and a half hour glasses (my mother said it may have just finished mating). But I just noticed the other day, a spider web between two bushes and the spider was green. Now, I have no pictures and I will not get close enough to take any.

I get too much by too many and I am real bad allergic to all spiders – both poisonous and nonpoisonous. The past too spider bites have made me run fevers and given me kidney infections. With this in mind, I wonder what are the probabilies of type of spider that could be biting me or is it just possible that I am hypersensitive and need to talk to my doctor(s) the next time I see them about running test(s) to see if some kind of shot(s) or medicine(s) are available for me for the next time? The obvious thing is getting rid of the black widow infestations around the house.

  18. Arthur Wang says:

My girlfriend found this inside a…tent? It’s like a tent that you put on your patio, intended to keep bugs out.

Anyhow, it was about as large as the size of her palm (she’s a petite girl).
    Thanks!

I work at a garden center and saw a strange looking spider. It was fairly large, black, fuzzy legs, and had a distinctive white spade shape on it’s back. What is it? Does anybody know? Is it dangerous?

    Hi!
    Can somebody identify this spider?
It’s very common in Hungary, actually this kind of spider makes up 80% of the spiders that I encounter in my room.
The biggest one was maybe around 1,5 cm in diameter. (0,6 inch)

  21. Bill says:

My daughter and I found this spider (maybe) it is about 1/4″ long, but I could not see the eyes on top, it doesn’t have the body or leg structure of a jumping spider, could this be a big mite? It looks like a spider to us and we keep and breed tarantulas, so we allow the existence of the spider world around the house and normally we can identify everything we encounter.

We run a fireworks business and every year when we get cases of fireworks in from China they have these spiders in them. They are a flat spider, front legs to back legs are as big as a quarter, and the body is the size of a pencil eraser.

Any help with an ID as to what we are dealing with would be appreciated, thanks!

These spiders are everywhere. Usually in my garage, or in my basement. I live in Southeastern PA. They can get very big (the size of a half dollar) or they can be smaller (the size of a nickle)

I found this spider living next to my washing machine. It has a very irregularly shaped web that almost seems to be randomly connected hexagons which is about 2 feet long. The spider is mottled grey and brown with a dark stripe on his underbelly running the length of his body. It is hard to see his back, but there seems to be a large dark spot in the middle of his back. He looks to be about 3/4 of an inch long. I live in Marin County, just north of San Francisco California.

I found a spider in my garage that looks exactly like #62. Can you please tell me what kind it is? If it is harmful or not? Thanks alot.

  31. Steph says:

yesterday while out walking i found a grey spider, a few sizes smaller than the average persons palm. it looked slightly fuzzy, but definitely no more than peach fuzz, with a larger, white behind. I live in upstate new york, very close to lake Ontario, and I’ve only seen one or two of these here. it moved fairly fast too.

  32. Matt says:

Rachel #22 that I can say is NOT a brown recluse…that is a wolf spider and yes it is poisonous, I live in rochester also, and from watertown area I see those all the time around marinas and boats. Brown Recluse has a lighter brown body skinny legs, and on its body where the legs come out from has a dark almost black violin with the head pointing toward the butt.

  33. Hannah says:

Me and one of my friends were playing around with water guns on the porch. On the window of our door, ( which is clear, so we could see both sides) there was a small, but mean looking spider. It was black, with a dark green head. On it’s thorax, there were 3 pale ornage dots. On the other side of the window, we could see the fangs. I live in western Kentucky, very close to the Ohio River. Anyone know?

  34. Gabriel Jasso says:

A response to the spider in #246. I have deployed 2 times to Iraq and liven in the high desert of California. In Iraq the spider is called a camel spider and can reach the size of your hand roughly. In California they have been known as Sun Spiders. My grandmother called it a vinigaru which she says you will get the taste of vinigar in your mouth kinda. In Cali. we had quite a few of them in our house many times and just did the same thing and moved them outside. The pest control guy told me they were not harmfull to humans but painful if bitten. They are a very agressive spider and think they are great danes. The biggest I have seen had an abdomin the same size as my thumb and my Gram squished it on our tile floor. But none the less never had a problem with them.

  37. Julie says:

While moving a storage bin on our back deck, my son and I found this spider. We did not kill it and it only took about 15 minutes for it to find a dark place to go. It was not on a web and there were no dead animals/exoskeletons around to identify what it may eat. We live in West Michigan, about 30 miles from the shore of Lake Michigan. This spider was found on May 29, 2009.

  38. N.D. says:

In the past two weeks I have found two medium sized spiders around my home. They are black and fuzzy with thick bodies and a yellow spot on their backs. The first one was found in my sliding glass door and the other was on my front door. I live in Southern Oregon. I do not have a picture of them as I simply killed them so my dogs would not try to eat them, and yes, they have tried. Can anyone tell me what these are?

  45. Courtney says:

    Hey,

I live in Oregon. My name is Courtney. My roommate found a spider in her room. I have seen this kind of spider before but I do not know what it is. Its not a wolf spider. IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE PICTURE IN COMMENT #950. But it is smaller, so I’m assuming its not an adult yet. It has four legs on one side, and four on the left as well. But on the left hand side one of the legs its very small. It’s dark brown with a light brown stripe down its body, its stops on its butt by ending at a point. And on its butt the stripe has dots that lead all down it. It has VERY long legs. I can’t get a good enough picture to put up.

    Thank You!

Ps. Thank you to #988, It was a wolf spider. (:

  47. SC says:

It is not a great pic but it was as close as I was willing to get. This spider is the 2nd that I have seen of this size in my home. I am very concerned and I can find NOTHING that meets the description anywhere b/c of it’s size. The spider was at least 3 to 3 1/2 Inches in diameter. I held a can of cat food (ordinary flat can of cat food) up to the wall in the same orientation and the spider would have been larger compared to the pattern on the wall paper, so the estimate of its size is actually pretty conservative. I live in Florida about 30 miles north of Tampa in Land O Lakes zip code 34638. I am very concerned because while this is the 2nd that I have seen of this size I have killed many very very tiny ones that I am sure are the same species. I need to know what I am dealing with. Sorry the pic is the best I could do. PLEASE, I DESPERATELY NEED HELP WITH THE ID, I CAN FIND NOTHING. I am finding them in the bathroom as well as in my living space.
